Rian Joubert, JDI’s Financial Director, was part of the panel discussion which focused on Youth in Agriculture. The discussion highlighted the perceptions that the youth has about agriculture and how they need to ensure that they make use of the opportunities within agriculture.
During the discussion, Rian also mentioned that the reason for the focus on the youth is that the country faces challenges of unemployment and “the youth needs to be made aware of all the job opportunities along the food value chain”.
Other topics discussed over the three days included: How do we create new energy in agriculture; The role of intensive livestock farming in sustainable meat production; What does the future hold for all stakeholders in the barley industry? as well as Training and training facilities in agriculture.
